About Woodwing Golden Retrievers

Pat Vanden Heuvel and her firt dog KingI have lived with Golden Retrievers since I was 12 years old. My first Golden, "Golden King XVIII, CD" started me on a lifelong passion of the Golden Retriever. King was a very special dog, and taught me what Goldens should be. My dad purchased him through a newspaper ad. He had an impressive pedigree with many famous historical kennel names - Indian Knoll's, Gunnerman, Rockhaven, to name a few. He was beautiful, incredibly smart, great hunting instincts, and totally loyal. I had no idea how lucky I was!

Initially, I started showing through the 4-H Program, which I continue to volunteer with today. It's a wonderful program that helps young people learn about dogs, training, competing and cameraderie. My 3 children were all involved in 4-H, and I believe they learned many positive life lessons through the program.

Our Roots
When I decided to become a breeder, I found a wonderful friend and mentor in the late Annette Boyer, of Classic Golden Retrievers. She taught me much about structure, movement and type. Her Goldens were a wonderful combination of soundness, temperament, type and beauty. Most of the dogs I own and breed today are related to her Golly (CH. Synergold Galyarde Classic, OS).

Golden Retriever Club Memberships
Over the years I have made many lifelong friends through my involvement with Goldens. I am a member of the Golden Retriever Club of America, Northern Flyway Of Wisconsin GRC, and Badger GRC. I have served on the boards of NFGRC and BGRC numerous times over the years.

Litters
Usually we will have 1-2 litters per year, with emphasis on health, longevity, temperament and type. Our goal is to produce dogs that conform to the standard. All parents have health clearances as recommend by the GRCA. See Upcoming Litters page for further information.
